Sizzlin' Salsa Festival
May 7, 2011
11am - 5pm
2011 Brings a Revival Sizzling Salsa along Historic 89A in Old Town Cottonwood, Saturday, May 7th from 11am-5pm.
The Old Town Association of Cottonwood is proud to announce a revival of Sizzling Salsa. For those of you who remember the event that last took place about eight years ago, you will agree it had become quite a success in drawing the crowds to the Old Town area for a fun-filled time to be had by all along Historic 89A.
This year's revival is not going to be as long as the event had been built up to, perhaps it will span most of one day instead of almost three, but it is surely an opportunity not to be missed. If all goes well, we can expect to see it grow over the next few years.
The 2011 Sizzling Salsa promises to have the main "course" of salsa tastings from numerous local restaurants, including those within and outside of, Old Town. In addition, there is a proposed "Pub Crawl" where attendees can visit the Old Town watering holes and give their vote for best tequilas, margaritas, wines and beers. This part of the event is also in honor of it being National Homebrew Day.
To celebrate National Historic Preservation month, The Cottonwood Hotel's historic walking tour will have a "Bootlegging" theme. This may include information on where the biggest stills burst into flames, causing town-wide fires. Hear that? Smoking hot fun for all!
Kids can swing their best luck at the giant pinata. It will be fun to see what shape the Boys & Girls Club of Cottonwood has come up with and what participating sponsors will fill it with goodies!
If this isn't enough, be prepared to see beautiful ladies in traditional dress, who also know how to dance. The "Verde Valley Bellet Folklorico de Colores" will bless us with their presence. If you missed them during the 2010 Holiday Parade through Old Town, you must come see them this May.
This special day is a great time to patron the shops and enjoy some good old Southwest arts & crafts, eye candy that can be bought and taken home for remembrance. At the same time, find your scavenger hunt items to win prizes, such as a gift certificate for one night's lodging at The Annabel Inn.
Beer and salsa tents will be located down near the Old Town Jail. The pub crawl, historic walk, scavenger hunt, and arts & crafts viewings will be throughout the Old Town shops. Expect Main Street closure from Pinal to Cactus, so that we may accommodate for dancing in the street, that huge swinging pinata, a Trick Bike race and parade, the width of the ice cream truck, or a potential fire hydrant letting loose to keep the flames down. You just never know...
Restaurants, artists, musicians, DJs and dancers wishing to participate, please contact the Old Town Association immediately, so that we may make space for your addition to this festive event. Contact the OTA at (877) 928-4OTA and we will direct you to the coordinator of your specific offering. Mark your calendars now, and stay posted as the details fill in for the 2011 Sizzling Salsa.
